{K} we're trying everything

By the time Kaitlyn got home from her mission I had already spent hours trying to get her into a GI specialist ASAP. I called over 30 specialists and not a single one had an opening. Once she got home I knew it was out of my hands and just prayed for a miracle - Kaitlyn has spent the past 10 months seeking and seeing miracles and we were literally handed one. The specialist I was told we needed to see ended up reading the report about Kaitlyn and put her in as a priority appointment.

We saw Dr Hum ten days after Kaitlyn got home and she reviewed all the tests they had run on Kaitlyn in Utah and repeated some of them. A week later they did an EGD (esophagogastroduodenoscopy) to view Kaitlyn's upper GI tract. All they really saw was a lot of inflammation which makes sense because she has been throwing up daily for nearly two months.
The next week they did a gastric emptying study and in the first two hours after she ate the radioactive eggs nothing digested. In the next two hours everything digested. They explained it that it's like her stomach doesn't register that there is food to digest but once it does her digestion kicks in normally.
Ultimately the answer we got was that she most likely got a stomach bug or infection that attacked the nerve endings in her stomach. The treatment is to give it time. There is no quick fix.

But I'm all about trying to help the "healing with time" along so I've been taking Kaitlyn to an alternative provider and she has been having acupuncture, massages and cupping at regular intervals in hopes of increasing blood flow to her stomach to help the healing process along.
We are also still accepting prayers and miracles...just saying :)

Labor Day on the River

We were so grateful for a beautiful, sunny Labor Day weekend. Our family was joined by Rich's sister Kathryn and her family on the Willamette River. We rented a couple of wave runners and spent the afternoon enjoying the thrill of the speed, the beauty of the scenery and the spray of the water on our faces. Such a fun end to our summer!!!
