{T} flying the real deal

Ty has a fascination with airplanes and flight so he was excited for an opportunity to go with his young men's group to the local airport to do a flight simulator.  The activity got even better for Ty when he was invited to be the only YM to fly to the airport with a member of our ward.  Rich joined Ty for the morning flight and Ty learned what was involved in the pre-flight checklist and then got to sit in the cockpit for the 20 minutes flight from Hillsboro to Aurora.

{C} #wewillplayagain

I have kept this image, posted by Cason's basketball program last year, in hopes that it would come true for Cason before he graduated.
When December came and went with no basketball, it was heartbreaking.  Through it all Cason has not given up hope for a season and he has been leading his (potential) teammates for the past four months by putting together practices at private gyms and outdoor courts (all this while dealing with his own extreme back pain).  He has told every member of the team to prepare for a season and be ready to go.  He has truly been the bearer of hope for the team.

And this week they got permission to begin practicing!!!!

I'm nervous to get my hopes up because our county is back in "extreme" COVID risk but we are being told that OSAA is going to approve a shortened (6 week) basketball season to begin May 10th.  The teams will be limited to 14 games and there will be no state championship or playoffs.  Spectators may be allowed but, if so, will be limited to two per player and only at home games.
None of it is ideal but at least it's something and I'll take something!

March Madness

This year we did our March Madness brackets a little different.  We cut out all of the teams and each of us drew the teams out of a bowl to make our "bracket" selections - completely random.
As the teams lost, we would highlight the team on our list and they were out.  We paid $20 to the person that had all their teams go out first, $15 to the second, $10 to the third, and $5 to the fourth.  The person that had the winning team got $50.  The idea was that we would have two people competing in the final game with the winner getting $50 and the other getting only $5...which would make for a pretty intense final game
It was a fun way to get everyone involved, regardless of our (my) knowledge of the teams.
The big winner?  Jakers
The way it worked out Jake actually had both of the teams that played in the final game (Baylor vs Gonzaga) so it was kind of anticlimactic since he was getting the $50 either way.  I'm not even sure that he watched the final game.  Haha!

Ladies Night Out

Post COVID dining says we can't sit more than six people to a table (even if we had seven in the car on the drive to the restaurant).  So we sat outside and ate dinner in our coats because no silly COVID rule was going to ruin our ladies night out with Michelle while she was in town.
