No Charlie Brown tree for us!!!

Did you know that Oregon has more acreage devoted to Christmas tree farming than any other state?
(just a little piece of Christmas tree trivia for you)
So it is almost embarrassing to admit that for the past four years we have resided in the heart of Christmas tree country and have had fake trees.
FINALLY this was our year to make that right and we went out to CUT DOWN OUR OWN TREE!

The decision of what tree to get was tough....

But we didn't give up....

And our hard work paid off....

Rich showed the kids how it was done...
....and then they all took a turn.

J was first man in...

C went next...

T has those magical red boots...

even Sis took a turn...

And after we called "timber" it was time to haul out our prize...

It's SANTA!!!!

My kids used to delight in seeing Santa!
Their mom used to delight in dressing them in their holiday best to see Santa!

Sadly, this year everything was all topsy turny.

Mom had to beg (BEG!) to get a photo of her four kids with the big jolly guy...and the biggest hold out of all was the six year old!  What?
And as the photo was snapped mom had the realization that everyone looked a bit rough - definitely not dressed in holiday best.
(In our defense, we were dressed to go hunt down a Christmas tree, so we were dressed for the practical more than for the festivities)

In the end, mom did get a picture of her four kids with Santa!

And in return?

They got a picture of their mom with the jolly red elf.
Sitting on his lap and all :)

Thanksgiving 2014...the year everyone is the same height

We took one (and only one) photo on Thanksgiving.
Shame on me because we had a great gathering of family and a great gathering of food and we really ought to have documented at least one of those gatherings :)

The one photo that was snapped was this one....documentation that for this one moment in time Rich and his two oldest son's, Conner and Tanner, are all three the same height.
Somehow I have a feeling that next year at this time Rich may be the shortest of the three :)

{J's class happenings} class play

J's class did a great job of acting out the Scattering of Seeds.
The class was divided into five groups and each group wrote a script, created costumes and acted out one method of seed scattering.

J was in the "deer" group...

{T's class happenings} Pumpkin Patch & Thanksgiving Feast

I feel like fall has FLOWN by and I don't think I am the only one that feels that way.

One day we were bundling T up in a sweatshirt and rain gear to head to the pumpkin patch with his school class
(boy oh boy, was it ever a COLD day!!!!!)

The next thing I know it was time for a Thanksgiving Feast and I am not sure what happened to the month in between.

What a cute little Indian, if I do say so myself.

friends

K has been blessed with so many good friends!
She left an amazing group of friends when we moved in June but has quickly created just as many new friendships here.

On Saturday one of her friend's mom took advantage of the beautiful, sunny fall day and did an impromptu photo shoot of our daughters together.

I think they turned out as beautiful as the girls!

Fun Run

After all the posts of K and C running cross country I thought I ought to include a photo of J and T on the day of their school Fun Run.

They each ran 18 laps which equates to 2 1/4 miles.

Not bad for little legs!

a little Halloween lesson

Once Upon a Time there was a young mom who loved to come up with cute, matching, themed costumes for her children.  She would spend weeks sewing and accessorizing until all was perfect.  She would take her children to the photo studio to have the costumes memorialized for generations to come.   And when comments were made about how darling her children's costumes were, she would simply say, "oh, it was nothing".

Sadly, this mother become prideful in her costumes and would look down upon the children that put together last minute costumes (and the mother's who allowed such thoughtless Halloween attire).
She didn't understand why everyone didn't put forth hours and hours of sewing and sweating and more sewing for one evening of Trick-or-Treating in the dark of night.

Because of this mother's pride, an evil spell was cast upon her at Halloween.
The first year the spell was cast in the form of being fresh off of a move between states, with all of her Halloween costumes and sewing supplies locked within an evil storage unit so that this mother had nothing to do but have her children wear matching costumes from the year before (gasp!).
The second year the spell was cast in the form of a surgery that occurred right before Halloween leaving her without the ability to sew and having had her children grow so that no matching costumes still fit, leaving her children to wear mismatched costumes from the box of previously prized costumes (gasp! gasp!)
The third year the spell was cast in the form of children who no longer cared to match and a haze of apathy quickly enveloped this once Halloween-loving mother.

After years of suffering this mother desperately desired to break the spell!
This year she committed to making costumes once again.
Costumes that were cute and matching and required trips to the hardware store.
The type of costumes that people would pin on pinterest!
But alas, she was reminded of the spell when two little boys saw pumpkin t-shirts (that had been worn in past spell-years) and declared that that was what they wanted to wear.
The mother fought the idea but in the end gave into the wishes of her two little boys.

And then, and only then, was the spell broken.

The boys wore their trailer-trash costumes.
They asked their dad to join them in trick-or-treating.
They came home with their body weight in candy.
And they were happy!
And the mom smiled and hugged the boys....and they responded by asking her if next year she would make them matching, "NEW" costumes.

And they all lived happily ever after :)

and this?
this has nothing to do with the story but it sure is a lot of candy!
(and when you only got two photos taken the entire evening, you better put them both on the blog)
