{Lake Tahoe} Dougall Family Reunion

We love our Dougall Family reunions that happen every other year. This year we all convened in Lake Tahoe, CA and Emily did an amazing job organizing the week. We began and ended the week with game nights which were so much fun, there were a couple of hikes, a couple of days at the lake, boating and, of course, sushi. And don't forget plenty of late nights for the cousins - playing games and strengthening friendships. There were some wildfires pretty close to Tahoe so we had to stay flexible on what we were able to do but, overall, the fires didn't affect us too much.

Tuesday we went to Angora Lakes and it was spectacular. We spent the entire day and had the place basically to ourselves - you have to hike into the lakes which I think keeps it from being too crowded. The kids had a blast boating across the lake and cliff jumping on the other side.

We stayed at the Marriott at the base of the ski resort...so I had to get a photo of Ty sitting in the famous ski chair.

Wednesday we went to Emerald Bay with some of the family going directly to the bay and a group of us doing the hike above the bay before joining everyone else. Ty and I were in the hike group, Jake was in the "directly to the bay" group.

Our timing was such that right as we all made it to the bay there was a downpour of rain so we all got real close real quick.

On Thursday the boys enjoyed boating with cousins at Sand Harbor.

We had free time the last day of the reunion and we found bikes to rent and a bike park to ride which was Jake and Ty's interest.

I mentioned the fires near Tahoe...this photo was the sunset the last night we were there. The smoke in the air, as bad as it was, sure made for spectacular sunsets.

{CA} weekend in Folsom

 Dougall Reunion time!!!

Jake, Ty and I hit the road with Lake Tahoe as our ultimate destination but we chose to take off a couple of days early so that we could spend the weekend with Emily and Jay in Folsum, CA.

Emily and I took the boys to Folsom Lake where they were able to enjoy the warm weather and the cool water while paddle boarding.

On Sunday morning we enjoyed a walk before church. Their ward meets in a church building right next to the Sacramento temple so we enjoyed walking the temple grounds after church.

So Cason couldn't play (3 weeks post-op) but he was proud to be counted amongst the "alumni" that beat summer squad in overtime :)

 

{C} Basketball Recognition

Wilsonville High School Boys Varsity 2021

This year's WHS team went undefeated for their 14 game season - maintaining their record of undefeated league play for the fifth straight year. 

They also maintained their record of undefeated at home for the sixth straight year. 

They tied for the most wins of any boy's basketball program at any classification level in the state of Oregon for this season (15-2)

They would have secured the league champ status if the league was doing that ranking this year but they are not.

Cason and Riley, the two starting seniors for WHS, were both selected for First Team All-League (Riley was also selected as player of the year).  For Cason this award was a really big deal because of the amount of pain that he had to push through for each game of the season...pain that increased with every single game.  They don't give the award "in spite" of an injury....the coaches that voted didn't know he was injured which speaks to the level of play Cason put in that he was considered in the top 6 while playing at less than his 100%

Tonight they wrapped up the season with a Varsity end of season celebration.  The team got to watch video clips of their season, hear all the stats of what they accomplished together and then they each got to take a moment to share their feelings about their season.  

What touched me the most was the fact nearly every one of those players mentioned Cason when they talked about their season....his inclusion, his leadership, his enthusiasm.  Cason's season was not what we would have liked for his senior year to be (between injury and COVID) but he gets it...he gets that basketball is bigger than he is and he gave his everything to this team and to this program and there will be a bit of Cason remaining when they reconvene in November to carry on without the graduated seniors.

I couldn't be more proud!

@casondougall Thank You Wilsonville Basketball for the last 4 years. It’s a special program to be apart of and the success speaks for itself. Thank you to my Coaches Especially Coach Roche. You’ve done more for me than you realize and we are lucky to have you! To my past teammates thank you for all the memories and for making me a better player and person. To this years team...it’s been a crazy past year and I am so grateful that I could end it with such a great group of fun and unique people. Every situation Covid threw our way we handled. We got counted out and managed to achieve Undefeated League Champs with a 15-2 record. Not too bad. I love you all and it’s heartbreaking to think I’ll never get to put that jersey on again. Love you my brothers!! Even you Kyle❤️🤡

{K} on the move again

Sister Dougall was sad to get the latest transfer news that has her leaving Vernal.  She has been told that she will be going to England soon so it makes sense that they are moving her back to Provo so that she is closer to (civilization) as she prepares to leave.  But she has also been dealing with some stomach issues so I have hopes that being in Provo will allow her to get her stomach figured out.

Her new companion in Provo is Sister Hartley.  The two of them are serving as STL (Sister Training Leaders) until K leaves for England.  She is also living in an apartment with Sister Holt and her companion which she is excited about.

{J} HEFY: Sunshine State

 

Jake spent the past 10 days just outside of Orlando, Florida on an HEFY (Humanitarian Experience For Youth) trip.  They partnered with Habitat for Humanity and most of their service projects were painting homes and doing landscape improvements.

Their sightseeing adventures included Gatorland, Daytona raceway and the beach, as well as going to the Orlando temple grounds.

Jake had an amazing trip and loved it so much. When we picked him up from the airport we went out to dinner so that we could have that time to hear all about his trip and he literally pulled out his notebook where he had written down things to remember to tell us. It was probably the most complete trip report we have ever had from any of our children :)
